1. Basecamp Research announces $140 million for AI-designed therapeutics¹

Basecamp Research announced $140 million in new financing alongside its therapeutic pipeline. The company describes EDEN-designed programmes spanning gene insertion, gene editing and peptide design, with its assets still in preclinical development. Its September pipeline lists discovery and lead-optimisation work across several disease areas. The financing matters because it supports a move from biological modelling toward developing therapeutic candidates, where experimental and clinical evidence will determine value. The announcement does not establish that these programmes work in patients, and the company’s platform descriptions remain its own claims.²¹

2. Azulene Labs raises $3.4 million for physics-based chemistry models³

Azulene Labs says it has raised a $3.4 million pre-seed round led by Ground State Ventures, with Entrada Ventures and angel investors participating. The company plans to expand its team and develop products combining quantum-mechanical training data with physics-based AI for molecular simulation. Its stated markets include biotech and industrial chemistry. This is new financing for an approach aimed at improving predictions beyond familiar chemical examples. Performance and cost advantages advertised in the release remain company claims; the funding announcement itself supplies no independent benchmark demonstrating those advantages.³

3. Anthropic publicly details its life-sciences group and laboratory⁴

Anthropic has publicly introduced a life-sciences research group and a Bay Area laboratory, describing a workflow that connects Claude-generated hypotheses with experiments performed by human scientists. The company says the group formed in spring 2026; this week’s development is the public account of its organisation and methods, rather than a newly completed laboratory opening. Researchers use the same Claude Science and Claude Code products offered externally, sometimes with additional coordination software. The operational significance is the integration of model development, computational screening and experimental assessment within one team; it is not evidence of an autonomous laboratory.⁴

4. Children’s Tumor Foundation Funds AI-Driven Drug Discovery for NF2-Related Schwannomatosis⁵

The Children’s Tumor Foundation is funding a University of Central Florida project with a $280,020 grant, the university reports.⁶ Working with Sage Bionetworks, the team used TxGNN predictions to prioritise existing drugs for NF2-related schwannomatosis. The partners describe ten drugs of interest and ongoing testing in patient-derived schwannoma cells, alongside analysis of tumour-growth pathways. The funded project links computational repurposing with laboratory validation, a concrete step beyond access to AI tools. These institutional announcements describe exploratory research; they do not establish that the candidates benefit patients or are approved for this condition.⁵

5. Penn’s first StartUP investments include AI peptide developer Peptaris⁷

The University of Pennsylvania announced the first investments from its $10 million StartUP Fund, including support for Peptaris, an AI peptide-design company founded by Penn researchers. Penn says the investment will support development of the company’s platform and experimental validation of initial therapeutic candidates. The fund also backed two companies outside drug discovery. This creates an early financing route between university research and commercial peptide development, with validation explicitly among the next steps. The $10 million figure describes the overall university commitment; Penn did not disclose how much of it went to Peptaris.⁷
